A person's personality is influenced by his/her upbringing.
I grew up awkward, sticking out like a sore thumb, being taunted and teased, being stepped and surrounded by malicious intentions. Despite the love and comfort that my parents try so hard to provide me with.
What kind of personality would I have?
Definitely not a pleasant submissive one everyone would love.

The first thing I thought of after I read this post was: Migrate.
It certainly isn't within the Asian society to accept spunk and attitude. They love, as you say, pleasant submissive personalities.
If you go somewhere non-Asian, you won't be a sore thumb, you'll be just normal like everyone else there.
I know I'm crazy to talk abt migrating, but that was what I seriously thought. Haha.
